Bernard Brown, REP, MIET
Bernard Brown has over 20 years of both private and public experience. His leadership has been instrumental in guiding teams through every phase of project development, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and delivering measurable results.
Bernard builds teams both internally and externally to help foster and propel projects forward. His understanding of the engineering and financing of projects allows him to reach out to the right partners for success. His proficiency spans project design, permitting, financing, and execution, particularly in renewable and sustainable energy, including projects designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance renewable energy.
Bernard spearheaded an organization’s inaugural waste-to-energy project leveraging cutting-edge pyrolysis technology. He played a pivotal role in securing project financing and establishing crucial investment tax credits.
Notably, Bernard’s visionary leadership secured a victory in a fiercely competitive federal competition, earning a company an ARCH2 hydrogen hub award. This achievement facilitated strategic pivots, including guiding the company through an acquisition. Additionally, Bernard has been instrumental in expanding efforts at a privately-owned port to include the formation of new Class III railroad.
Earlier in his career, Bernard gained valuable energy experience while serving on a utilities committee as an elected official in Delaware. He has both designed and managed projects involving environmental remediation. Additionally, he has provided training to public safety officers on hazard mitigation processes. His background includes hazard mitigation planning, risk analysis, grant writing and management, and conducting vulnerability assessments.
Bernard holds a master’s degree in energy engineering from Texas A&M University, a master’s degree in natural resource management (sustainability) from Virginia Polytechnical University, and a master’s degree in public administration from Clemson University. Bernard also holds a bachelor’s in finance from Christopher Newport University, a bachelor’s in criminal justice from Excelsior University, and a bachelor’s in planning and sustainability from Arizona State University. Bernard is a certified Renewable Energy Professional and an MIET with the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
When Bernard takes short breaks from higher education or business pursuits, he enjoys watching NCAA football, spending time with his German Shepherds, collecting Legos, and hunting for the best New York-style pizza.
